A Program of the Orange Show Center for Visionary Art
Dear Art Car Enthusiasts,
The Orange Show Center for Visionary Art’s Art Car Weekend and its anchor event, the 23rd Annual Houston Art Car Parade, occupy a unique place in the life of our city and beyond. Each spring, people of every age and from every walk of life create works of art using the car as a vehicle for self-expression. For four full days every May, these Art Cars and their artists are featured in special events that draw audiences of more than 250,000 from all over the world. By providing a venue for the community to value individual artistic expression, the Houston Art Car Parade brings people together to celebrate what we have in common: our cherished freedom of expression and our drive to use it.
This year’s celebration takes place May 6–9, 2010. In order to participate in the fun, complete and return this entry application no later than March 19, 2010. Completed entry forms are not juried, but are accepted on a first come, first served basis. Entry applications will not be accepted after March 19, 2010. You will receive an email confirmation of your accepted entry form by April 1, 2010. Packet pickup will be at the Art Car Kickoff Party at Saint Arnold Brewing Company on April 14, 2010. Please plan to attend! Out-of-towners will be notified of the packets mail date. If you have any questions or need any additional information, please contact us by phone at (713) 926-6368 or by email at artcarentry@orangeshow.org.
Art Car Parade Entry Form Deadline: March 19, 2010
All entries must be decorated, embellished, augmented or otherwise decked out!
All entries must work. Breakdowns along the route are considered “billable accidents” by HPD, you will be towed at your own expense! Please be sure your car is in good working condition and has enough gas.
Proper vehicle registration and insurance is the responsibility of owner and/or parade participant.
The Parade is a rain or shine event. Please be aware of the weather and plan accordingly.
Please be aware that the route is 5 miles long. Your entry may have to idle for a long while in the hot sun during judging, staging and line up. We suggest bringing water for your car, yourself and those accompanying you.
No walkers! Walking entries are forbidden. All non-wheeled entries will be asked to leave. It’s better to roll, plus it helps keep those gaps from forming in the parade.
Bikers, skaters and rollerbladers cannot hold on to vehicles in motion. This is hazardous. What works for you might not work on another car.
No entries may exceed 13 feet in height & 12 feet in width.
All entries must have a fire extinguisher (minimum rating 10BC).
Entrants must not throw anything into the crowd.
The Parade Planning Team reserves the right to refuse any entry, including up until parade start.
No entries may present a safety hazard.
All entries must be suitable for family viewing.
Absolutely no swerving is allowed on the parade route.
No dogs allowed—it is a hot and long day!
The presence of commercial signage, logos, etc., qualifies an entry as “corporate,” which carries a minimal entry fee of $5000 and must be pre-approved by the Orange Show.
In the event that more than 250 entries are received (the number of entries that can feasibly run the route in the amount of time available to us), those vehicles that have participated in the previous three years and have not significantly altered their entry will be asked to sit out.
A $30.00 entry fee must accompany this form. The entry fee:
Helps to defray administration costs of this program;
Entitles you to a commemorative Art Car Weekend 2010 T-shirt;
Provides hospitality for artists.
You receive our sincere appreciation!
A completed entry form MUST BE RECEIVED BY 5:00 PM, FRIDAY, MARCH 19, 2010. Incomplete entry forms will not be considered. To be complete, an entry form must be filled out entirely and accompanied by payment and 2 photographs or drawings of your proposed parade entry. Entries received after the above deadline will not be accepted.
No entry will be accepted without a signed indemnification agreement (PDF link - will be emailed to you upon completion of this form.)
A completed entry form must be submitted for each parade entry.
