CLASSES & WORKSHOPS

Tai Chi in the Barrio
Every Monday
Smither Park  |  7pm
Taichi Barrio-orange show-logo.jpg

Tai Chi is a fun, engaging way to exercise the mind and body at the same time. Classes feature lessons in the YANG style, based on the 24-steps international form. All levels are welcome to join. Fundamentals will be the focus of each session with the integration of application work (martial arts), qi gong (energy work), and philosophical perspectives (Ying and Yang). Each class will delve deeply into a section of the form, drawing out the essence of the Tai Chi form. Push hands will also be introduced to further elaborate the practice.

Classes are by donation - pay what you can - suggested $5-$20

Join artists Sharon Plummer and John Gregory, whose work is featured permanently in Smither Park, for a beginner mosaic class! Learn the basics of creating an original mosaic work of art, from tracing your image, to finding the perfect colors, to cutting and nipping tiles, and eventually affixing it onto a base. You'll leave the class with a basic knowledge of mosaic-ing, and take home your piece of art to grout yourself, or the option to return the following month to grout with the teachers.

Designed for ages 16+ and limited to 10 students per class. Ticket includes all materials needed. Takes place entirely outdoors in Smither Park, under the shade of the Smither Park Vinson & Elkins Pavilion. Street parking available.

$5 per person fee for materials
