THE ORANGE SHOW CENTER FOR VISIONARY ART
Throughout its 42 year history, the Orange Show Center for Visionary Art has provided access to the magic and wonder of visionary art to over 8 million visitors. The Orange Show has helped to define Houston's sense of creative self-expression and has stitched together a tapestry of diverse communities that celebrate the artist in everyone.
The Orange Show's cultural assets - the Orange Show Monument, one of the world's most important pieces of idiosyncratic architecture, built single-handedly by a retired Houston postman; the Beer Can House, a visionary folk art bungalow covered in over 50,000 flattened beer cans; and Smither Park, a constantly evolving mosaic sculpture park featuring the works of over 300 artists from around the world - have come to represent the spirit of our city. Our wildly successful Art Car Parade, with over a quarter million annual attendees, is not only the largest free cultural event in Houston, but also one of the signature ways Houstonians celebrate themselves each year.
